In an interleaved multiphase bidirectional DC-DC converter, a simple approach to improving the effectiveness of passive current balancing is presented.

PROJECT TITLE :

A Simple Approach to Enhance the Effectiveness of Passive Currents Balancing in an Interleaved Multiphase Bidirectional DC-DC Converter

ABSTRACT:

Bidirectional DC-DC converter with interleaving, soft switching and near critical conduction mode (near-CRM) functioning is the subject of this article.. The effectiveness of passive current balancing across many interleaved phases can be improved by employing systematic design and control methods. Prior to delving into turn-off resonance models, this work examines zero voltage turn-on functioning, which includes energy diversion through the use of a snubber capacitor. It is also shown that a closed-loop mechanism that balances currents passively based on the phase current deviation and effective duty cycle fluctuation is quantitatively formulated and modelled. The near-CRM mode's snubber capacitance, dead time, and valley currents are all included in the system's design restrictions, which are used to ensure that the unbalanced current is effectively countered. It is proposed that the valley current be actively controlled and the current balancing effectiveness maintained during operating range by using a variable switching frequency control In order to test the proposed design and control approaches, a 20-kW three-phase interleaved prototype with maximum efficiency of 99.1 percent was built.
