Future RAN Architecture: SD-RAN Through a General-Purpose Processing Platform

PROJECT TITLE :

Future RAN Architecture: SD-RAN Through a General-Purpose Processing Platform

ABSTRACT:

In this article, we tend to identify and study the potential of an integrated deployment resolution for energy-economical cellular networks combining the strengths of two very active current research themes: 1) software-outlined radio access networks (SD-RANs) and 2) decoupled signaling and knowledge transmissions, or beyond cellular inexperienced generation (BCG2) architecture, for enhanced energy efficiency. While SD-RAN envisions a decoupled centralized control plane and information-forwarding plane for versatile control, the BCG2 design incorporate decoupling coverage from the capability and coverage provided through an perpetually-on low-power signaling node for a bigger geographical space; the capacity is catered by numerous on-demand knowledge nodes for maximum energy potency. In this article, we show that a combined approach that brings both specifications along will not solely achieve bigger advantages however additionally facilitate faster realization of each technologies. We propose the idea and design of a signaling controller that acts as a signaling node to supply forever-on coverage, consuming low power, and at the identical time host the control plane functions for the SDRAN through a general-purpose processing platform. The phantom cell concept is additionally a similar plan where a traditional macrocell provides interference control to densely deployed small cells, although our initial results show that the integrated design features a abundant larger potential for energy savings than phantom cells.
