PROJECT TITLE :

Leveraging Heterogeneous Power for Improving Datacenter Efficiency and Resiliency

ABSTRACT:

Power mismatching between supply and demand has emerged as a top issue in trendy datacenters that are beneath-provisioned or powered by intermittent power provides. Recent proposals are primarily restricted to leveraging uninterruptible power supplies (UPS) to handle power mismatching, and thus lack the capability of efficiently handling the irregular peak power mismatches. During this paper we have a tendency to propose hPower, the primary heterogeneous energy buffering strategy that incorporates supercapacitors into existing datacenters to handle power mismatch. Our technique exploits power supply diversity and smart load assignment to provide potency-aware and emergency-aware power mismatch management. We have a tendency to show that hPower could improve energy potency by thirty %, extend UPS lifetime by four.three×, and scale back system downtime by 36 percent. It permits datacenters to adapt themselves to varied power supply anomalies, thereby improving operational potency and resiliency.
