PROJECT TITLE :

Medium access control design for full duplex wireless systems: challenges and approaches

ABSTRACT:

Recent advances in self-interference cancellation techniques enable in-band full-duplex (FD) transmission in that a wireless node can simultaneously transmit and receive in the same frequency band. However, to completely exploit the advantages of FD technology in a very wireless network, in addition to the physical (PHY) layer issues, medium access management (MAC) layer issues like inter-node collisions, fairness between halfduplex (HD) and FD users, opportunistic selection of different modes of FD transmission, and synchronization problems want to be resolved. To this end, this article first discusses the basic concepts, potential edges, and first network topologies of FD transmission. We tend to then highlight immediate challenges (each in the PHY and MAC layers) that need to be addressed in coming up with FD wireless systems. A qualitative comparison among the present full-duplex MAC (FD-MAC) protocols is then provided. Finally, the first needs and research problems for the look of FD-MAC protocols are mentioned, and implications of FD technology in cellular wireless networks are highlighted.
