Accurate Sine-Wave Amplitude Measurements Using Nonlinearly Quantized Data

PROJECT TITLE :

Accurate Sine-Wave Amplitude Measurements Using Nonlinearly Quantized Data

ABSTRACT:

The estimation of the amplitude of a sine wave from the sequence of its quantized samples could be a typical problem in instrumentation and measurement. A customary approach for its answer makes use of a least squares estimator (LSE) that, however, does not perform optimally within the presence of quantization errors. In fact, if the quantization error can't be modeled as an additive noise source, because it usually happens in observe, the LSE returns biased estimates. During this paper, we consider the estimation of the amplitude of a loud sine wave once quantization. The proposed technique is based on an even distribution of signal phases and it will not need that the quantizer has equally spaced transition levels. The experimental results show that this method removes the estimation bias associated with the usage of the LSE which it is sufficiently sturdy with respect to tiny uncertainties within the known values of transition levels.
