Grid-tied Power Control and Storage Reduction in AC Microgrids with Hybrid Electric Springs

PROJECT TITLE :

Hybrid Electric Springs for Grid-tied Power Control and Storage Reduction in AC Microgrids

ABSTRACT:

Battery energy storage devices are typically used to connect renewable generation (RG) to the utility grid (BESS). The power of the battery is passively regulated by the differential in power between the grid and the grid-connected inverter in this cascaded design. The battery's state-of-charge (SoC) regulation is compromised, and the battery's storage capacity is increased as a result. This research proposes a grid-tied power regulation and battery storage capacity reduction in ac microgrids using a hybrid electric spring (HES) integrated with the RG and noncritical load (NCL). When the battery, NCL, and grid are all linked into a single system, it allows for flexible regulation of the power flow. The suggested HES can also regulate grid-tied power across a larger operating zone than the standard BESS and the current electric springs. An overview of the HES's operating principles and steady-state analysis is provided. Tests and simulations are used to verify the grid-tied power control and battery SoC control functionalities are both effective and efficient.
