An Improved Transient Performance of an Islanded Hybrid AC-DC Microgrid Using a Novel Control Scheme

PROJECT TITLE :

A Novel Control Scheme for Enhancing the Transient Performance of an Islanded Hybrid AC-DC Microgrid

ABSTRACT:

In this research, we present an innovative supplementary feature for increasing the transient performance of an isolated hybrid ac-dc microgrid via the bidirectional interlinking converter. Ac microgrid with inertial and non-inertial sources is interconnected with the dc microgrid via a BIC. While the synchronous generator (SG) is an inertial source that can be used for short-term storage to improve the system's transient performance, contemporary BlC control schemes do not do so wisely. Since the BIC connects the two microgrids, this can be accomplished by altering the output frequency of the BIC in response to disturbances in the ac microgrid. When a disturbance occurs, the output frequency of the BIC is intentionally increased or decreased, operating as a virtual synchronous generator (VSG). There is circulating current between the BIC and the SmartGate when the BIC output frequency changes. SG inertia is used as storage because the BIC voltage phasor leads or lags the SG voltage. A cost-effective solution is provided by reducing the scheme's dependence on storage while retaining the system's transient stability. Using simulations and experiments, the proposed control approach is tested.
