ART An Attack-Resistant Trust Management Scheme for Securing Vehicular Ad Hoc Networks - 2016

ABSTRACT:

Vehicular impromptu networks (VANETs) have the potential to rework the way people travel through the creation of a safe interoperable wireless communications network that features cars, buses, traffic signals, cell phones, and different devices. However, VANETs are susceptible to security threats due to increasing reliance on communication, computing, and control technologies. The unique security and privacy challenges posed by VANETs embody integrity (information trust), confidentiality, nonrepudiation, access control, real-time operational constraints/demands, availability, and privacy protection. The trustworthiness of VANETs might be improved by addressing holistically each information trust, which is defined as the assessment of whether or not or not and to what extent the reported traffic knowledge are trustworthy, and node trust, that is outlined as how trustworthy the nodes in VANETs are. In this paper, an attack-resistant trust management scheme (ART) is proposed for VANETs that's able to detect and deal with malicious attacks and also evaluate the trustworthiness of each information and mobile nodes in VANETs. Specially, information trust is evaluated based on the information sensed and picked up from multiple vehicles; node trust is assessed in 2 dimensions, i.e., purposeful trust and recommendation trust, that indicate how probably a node can fulfill its functionality and how trustworthy the recommendations from a node for different nodes can be, respectively. The effectiveness and potency of the proposed ART scheme is validated through intensive experiments. The proposed trust management theme is applicable to a wide selection of VANET applications to improve traffic safety, mobility, and environmental protection with enhanced trustworthiness.
