Improving Bayesian Reasoning: The Effects of Phrasing, Visualization, and Spatial Ability

ABSTRACT:

Decades of research have repeatedly shown that folks perform poorly at estimating and understanding conditional probabilities that are inherent in Bayesian reasoning issues. Nevertheless within the medical domain, both physicians and patients create daily, life-critical judgments based mostly on conditional probability. Though there have been a range of tries to develop more effective ways in which to facilitate Bayesian reasoning, reports of those findings have a tendency to be inconsistent and sometimes even contradictory. For instance, the reported accuracies for individuals being able to correctly estimate conditional chance vary from half dozen% to 62%.
