PROJECT TITLE :

Minimizing Underwater Noise Generated by Submarine Maneuvering: An Optimal Control Approach

ABSTRACT:

In this paper, the matter of minimizing the noise generated by the propeller and therefore the management surfaces of a manned submarine is addressed. Cavitation connected to propeller blades and hydrofoils in addition to vortex cavitation occurring at a distance from propeller blades and hydrofoils that is generated by turbulent boundary layers is considered. The most goal is to compute trajectories for various tactically relevant maneuvers that minimize the noise generated by its associated prevalent source. To this finish, we consider a constrained, nonlinear, optimal control downside which incorporates a system of twelve nonlinear differential equations because the underlaying state law and a Bolza-kind value perform. The management variables are propeller revolutions, deflections of management surfaces, and the speed at which they alter. After a appropriate modification of variables, the existence of a resolution for the control problem is proved by using Filippov's theory. The matter is solved numerically with a descent technique. A few numerical simulations complete our study.
