Putting a Number on Pain: Technology Has an Increased Role in Measuring Subjective Symptoms in Clinical Trials

ABSTRACT:

WiFi and cellular networks are pervasively provided for mobile Web access. Though most existing mobile devices are equipped with each WiFi and cellular network interfaces, concurrent information transmissions over these interfaces for improved throughput are not provided. During this paper, a bandwidth aggregation prototype, named Application Layer Protocol based Aggregation (ALP-A), is developed for straightforward use by merely installing an application in mobile devices while not modifying their operating systems or drivers. It provides desired quality-of-experience (QoE), i.e., acceptable response delay to users, learned from application characteristics and users behaviors. Furthermore, we have a tendency to propose an on-line algorithm of traffic scheduling over WiFi and cellular interfaces with the objective of minimizing energy consumption while guaranteeing the QoE. Over the prototype implemented on Andriod-based smartphones, we have a tendency to conduct in depth experiments to indicate that ALP-A outperforms existing schemes considerably.
