HL7 FHIR Standards Usability Test for Blockchain-Based Health Information Exchange Platform

PROJECT TITLE :

Development of Blockchain-Based Health Information Exchange Platform Using HL7 FHIR Standards Usability Test

ABSTRACT:

The exchange of health information has the potential to both improve patients' health and lower unnecessary medical costs. Proving the data's integrity and bolstering individuals' rights to make their own health care decisions is an essential part of the process of exchanging health information. Blockchain technology and the use of dynamic consents are two potential solutions to this problem. We planned to build a mobile platform for exchanging trustworthy health information with verified authenticity using blockchain technology and naming it HealthPocket. This platform would be called HealthPocket. It would be based on the HL7 FHIR standards. Subjects are able to selectively provide their consent to share particular medical and PGHD data through the use of HealthPocket, and after the necessary authorization has been completed, each response is converted into the JSON format, which is compatible with FHIR. We carried out a usability test in order to demonstrate the sharing of medical records between primary and tertiary care facilities. A total of 116 participants answered questions regarding their experiences while using the HealthPocket mobile application to selectively share health information for at least one month. This was followed by the completion of the survey. In addition, the medical staff of the institution would be able to access the participants' shared medical information and make use of it when providing treatment to patients. The user surveys for patients looked at overall service satisfaction, as well as perceived ease of use, perceived usefulness, and perceived difficulty of use. The health information exchange service garnered the greatest mean overall satisfaction out of all of the services (4.67 out of 5 points). The blockchain technology has the potential to provide viable solutions to the primary concerns regarding the exchange of health information, which are the protection of personally identifiable information and interoperability. For this reason, it is impossible to change individual data blocks whenever blockchain technology is used to facilitate the transfer of health information, for instance. As a result, we were able to ensure the authenticity of medical records by utilizing a platform that was based on blockchain technology and a dynamic consent system.
