A Disparity Between General Data Protection Regulation and Blockchain An Organized Review

PROJECT TITLE :

A Gap Between Blockchain and General Data Protection Regulation A Systematic Review

ABSTRACT:

Since the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) came into effect in May 2018, compliance has been an issue for blockchain because it functions as a service platform. In spite of the fact that a great number of technical fixes have been suggested, the problems that arise from the incompatibility of blockchain technology and the GDPR have not been solved. In this study, the differences between blockchain technology and the GDPR are outlined, and potential solutions to close those gaps are investigated. Using a methodology known as a systematic literature review, we analyze 91 articles that were published in the past. Then, we respond to the research questions that are as follows: 1) Which potential solutions have been investigated so far in order to bring blockchain technology into compliance with the GDPR? 2) What are some of the unanswered questions in the field of blockchain compliance research? In conclusion, we will discuss the following five research gaps in this field: 1) the development of a consent ontology model; 2) the development of a methodology for monitoring fairness in the blockchain; 3) the resolution of the contradiction between auditing and obfuscation; 4) the development of a methodology for tracking controllers in the blockchain; and 5) the integration of different-purposed technical solutions without conflicts. All of these tasks need to be completed. Because of our research, the level of compatibility between the GDPR and blockchain technology can be improved, and businesses that adopt blockchain technology can be guided toward compliance with the GDPR. In addition, it can offer advice to the regulator on how to incorporate new technologies into the GDPR while still safeguarding the nature of a blockchain.
